After Dong Zhuo burned down the city of Luoyang, the Guandong Rebel Army and the Xiliang Army meet at Hulao Pass. Guan Yu and Zhang Fei help Liu Bei fight Lu Bu, making Liu Bei rise to fame. The two sides fight a battle of wits and courage, and finally both Li Ru and Dong Zhuo die in the fight.
