Earl Charles Grey is a code-named Charles double (the other being Charles Phipps), and is a member of Queen Victoria's Private Secretarial Officers, as well as her butler. He also recently became the earl and thus, the head of house, in his family line; his family is said to be so famous that a flavor tea is named after them.
Grey is shown to be a bold, selfish, arrogant and competitive individual who does not care about other people's lives, especially those from lower social classes.
He's a highly skilled swordsman who finds combats thrilling, engaging in them at any given opportunity. He claims to only believe in things he can cut with his sword and is overly confident with his skills. However, the Earl is afraid of ghosts and snakes.
Grey has a voracious appetite, eating by himself all the food stored in the Phantomhive manor in one sit during his stay there. He's always seen eating or complaining about his hunger, this being a running gag in the series. He's also a heavyweight.
