Tamako is a noblewoman of the Taishou era. Having recently come of age, her family tries to wed her to a suitable man befitting her rank to continue the family line. When the social pressure is so intense she becomes ill, she falls in love with Dr. Terashima, a physician of lowly birth working for her family.
