In the not-so-distant future, Japan continues to make extraordinary discoveries and advancements, including the ability to print your own companion! With a bio-printer, anyone can have the critter of their dreams. Well, assuming it prints correctly, that is. Unfortunately for Satou, while trying to print a Shiba Inu, an error results in a totally different creature—one that has never been seen before! Satou has no idea what he's created or how to care for it, but despite the oddities, he's endeared by the squishy and soft cutie. Even his friend is charmed by the odd, loaf-shaped pet and gives it the perfect name: Mochimochi!

But when Satou learns that there are others like Mochi, their social circle begins to grow—leaving them with more questions about this peculiar printed pal.
