Yoshio no Seishun

The stories gathered in Yoshio's youth move between dream and reality, between everyday life and madness. Yoshiharu Tsuge looks back on the hardships of the post-war era, the innocence of his beginnings as a mangaka and the disenchantment that followed. Like Red Blossoms and The Useless Man, the young Yoshio Watakushi manga's tales, are full of introspection, in which the lucid and disenchanted description of reality alternates with moments of pure lyric poetry, and grotesque portraits with delicate intrusions mix with absurdist comedy. Yoshiharu Tsuge looks back on his past and draws on experiences from his childhood and as an adult, while his style is constantly reinventing itself.
