Grovyle is a bipedal Pokémon similar in appearance to a theropod dinosaur. It is primarily green with a red underside. There is a belt-like green stripe across its belly. Grovyle's hands have two clawed fingers and powerful legs with birdlike feet. Grovyle has three long leaves on its wrists, a large leaf on top of its head, and two tails that have a leafy appearance.

This leafy appearance allows it to be camouflaged in the forests and dense jungles where it lives. Grovyle is said to be master at climbing trees in jungles. Grovyle's well-developed muscles make it an expert climber and allow it to leap quickly from branch to branch. The muscles are said to provide explosive bursts of power, which contribute to its incredible leaping capabilities. No Pokémon has been able to catch a fleeing Grovyle, no matter how fast they try to be. As mentioned in Sleep Style Dex, veteran researchers have difficulty finding the slumbering Grovyle due to its excellent camouflage. Grovyle has four different sleep styles: Knee-Up Sleep, Dream-Stance Sleep, Leaf-Tucked Sleep, and Atop-Belly Sleep.
